Newtown Health Clinic Closure - Thursday 30 June 2016

Reference – Transfer of your Health Care

The GPs at Alma Medical Centre wish to notify you that we are planning to close the Newtown Health Clinic branch surgery on Thursday 30 June 2016.

Previously we notified you that we were in consultation with NHS England and NHS Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group regarding this potential change and this consultation period has come to an end. We actively engaged with our Patients and Stakeholders over a three month period; and from that we have made the decision to close our Branch Surgery.  NHS Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group has supported us with this heavy decision.

Our reasons for closing the Branch Surgery have always been because we felt that we could no longer give you the service that we feel that you deserve. The current GP recruitment crisis has also meant that we haven’t been successful in recruiting a new GP Partner to replace the Partner that previously left the Organisation in March 2016 and we feel that we are unable to maintain the standards of service that we would like to deliver if we are spread over two sites.

What this now means for you is that your Primary Health Care and Medical Records will transfer to our main surgery as of Thursday 30 June 2016. You will be able to book an appointment and see the same GPs and Nurses at Alma Medical Centre as you have previously been doing so.  Although we do realise that this may be a little less convenient for some of our patients.

Your primary health care will continue as normal and will not be affected.

This change in surgery will be beneficial to your health care as the Practice will be able to offer you more appointments throughout the day, more choice of the GP that you wish to see, as well as more access to our specialist nursing clinics from one site. This will mean that you as a patient will have a greater choice over your health care.

You do not need to do anything as your Medical Records will be automatically transferred up to the main Surgery. If you would like to transfer your care earlier you are welcomed to do so and you are requested to contact me on the details above.  If in the event that you feel that you don’t want to move with us to Alma Medical Centre; you are able to transfer your Health Care to one of our neighbouring Practices such as Nicholstown Surgery who are more than happy for you to make that change.  If Nicholstown Surgery does not suit your needs you can find an alternative GP Surgery on the NHS Choices website:

We’d like to thank you for your loyal support over the years and we wish to carry on working for you in the future and hope that we can provide you with a smoother service.

If you would like further information regarding the closure then please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Nikki Cobby
